Prerequisites

It is recommanded to have a solid statistics background as well as an advanced Excel level, for example by having attended “Analyzing large amounts of data (Excel advanced)” and “Understanding the basics of statitics for business decisssion”.

– Starting with business understanding
– Stakeholders, milestones, project management method
– Methodology: traditional or agile? making the right choice in terms of governance

> First step: defining useful information

– Reconsidering your business from a data user perspective
– Understanding what data are necessary to monitor my business (sensibility, drivers, impacting factors)
– How to include non-quantitative data

> Second step: defining and using business

– Creating a business oriented KPI based on information obtained in step one
– Setting target and improvement steps
– Controlling business performance

> Third step: Building descriptive and predictive models based on selected data

– General linear model, boosting, bagging and random forests, Bayes
– How to detect abnormal data
– Grouping via k-average and graphic modularity
– Monte-Carlo simulation in order to quantify and manage variability and risks
– Forecasting (moving average and exponential smoothing) and data quality checks
– Setting a feedback loop to improve next forecast
– Illustration: using Excel algorithm (linear and non-linear optimization)
